Scots College – CSC
Scots College is a world-class independent Presbyterian day and boarding school for boys Years 1 – 13. As an International Baccalaureate World School, Scots offers a vibrant learning environment for boys, encouraging excellence in every facet of their education.
Last year Scots, with the aid of Impact Group delivered two new significant buildings, the Creative and Performing Arts Centre (completed in February 2012) and the Covered Sports Centre (CSC) which officially opened to the public on 4 November 2011.
The Covered Sports Centre is a truly spectacular building. Its external shell (comprising a polycarbonate cladding system on glu-lam portal frames) encloses four cricket bowling lanes with removable nets – allowing Scots College to open up the space for other sports – and its 800-square-metre all-artificial tiger turf will allow all-season sports practice and physical education lessons. The facility has been designed to such a high standard that international sports teams will use it when in Wellington for indoor training.
Internally, there is a mezzanine floor which will be used as a teaching/coaching area and viewing platform, under the mezzanine there is an office and a medical room. ‘Home’ and ‘away’ changing rooms with showers have been designed and built to a very high durable standard. All available space in the building has been utilised, with retaining walls coupling as storage spaces. Electronic notice boards are conveniently placed around the interior to provide the latest information at the college or at sports events.
One of the special features that have been incorporated into this building is the video analysis equipment which will enable coaches to assist bowlers and builders in their technique. The facility also has a mobile bowling machine.
The opening was attended by several sports and political figures including All Black and old boy Victor Vito, former cricketer Don Neely and Mayor Celia Wade-Brown.
